BACKGROUND: March 17, 2024 - As promised, almost 5 years ago now, I've come back to complete this blog as I originally intended. I had been pretty much in survival mode *only* since mid 2019 and was unable to pay the wanted attention here since then.
It was because of that I could only post the final six (6) issues (#50-->55) as is, of which I was grateful for, but until now I was denied the joy of supplementing additional photos located via the internet which related to some of the main articles found within each issue.
One of the things that I also wished to do to celebrate the final posts for this blog was to make available the 35mm restorations of all 14 classic Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce "Sherlock Holmes" motion pictures. I managed to upload the first four (4) and now look forward to completing the availability of the final ten (10) films.
Update: September 24, 2019 - I finally was able to upload the 4th film, which completes Volume One of the Sherlock Holmes restored movie collection along with the one commentary from the collection by David Stuart Davies. My HD copy of the film did not contain that commentary so I'm adding an additional link for that direct from the original DVD of the collection. Also, the extras that were included on that final disc of Volume One have been included with the third link below:
Update: August 21, 2019 - Okay, I'm on a roll so here's the 3rd Universal Studios Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce film "Sherlock Holmes in Washington" [1943] which kind of 'wraps up' the WWII-Nazi spy 'trilogy' of the series. You can find it via the provide link:
Update: August 17, 2019 - I've been inspired to upload a copy of the 2nd Universal Studios Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce "Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon" [1942] which I think is even better than the first Universal film. You can find it via the provide link:
Update: August 12, 2019 - One of the things that I wished to do to celebrate the final posts for this blog was to make available the 35mm restorations of all 14 classic Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce "Sherlock Holmes" motion pictures. I'm still not going to be able to meet any schedule but in the interest of exploration I have now uploaded a copy of the first film made available from the collection, "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror" [1942]. This is not from the original DVD release, but the 720pHD reissue(!)
Dear friends,
My mother passed away on June 20th of this year, impacting everything in my life. Fortunately, my last SS post had already been completed before her passing so I was able to put it out after her death intact and 'as I intended' during this sad event in my life.
The one thing I wanted to do was get my Mom out of this realm as peacefully as possible, but I feel in the end I failed her at that. There is no doubt she suffered, and that will forever haunt me.
Soon I will be homeless, and now I'm not even certain I'll be able to have a car to get the transportation I need to survive. Nonetheless, I will try to complete my SS posts, however, I won't be able to add the extras that I so much enjoyed doing ...yet, if I survive I'd like to come back and complete that task at a later date. At least you'll have all of the issues (which is the end goal anyway) and I will remain hopeful I can still post those final issues through to the end of the year. (I always said I didn't want to rush a good thing.) Besides that, it will give me an opportunity to quickly tell you about my progress.
One bit of SS news(!) is that I'd created a Twitter account to support this Blog, but there was a person who reached out to me asking why I was using Richard Valley's photo for the account. I believe he wanted to point out that it should not come across that I was impersonating Richard, and with that I deactivated the account. I still liked the account, however, and really enjoyed it being there (although I admit I don't have the time to use it much these days) and so I have re-activated it but have now specifically described it as a tribute (or dedication) to Richard and that I'm not trying to take anything away from him or his estate. We'll hope that is an agreeable solution, which I would have done in the first place, but Twitter only allows so many characters for an account description.
Okay then, that's it until the end of Summer. If there is no post at that time...then the news ain't so good. Hopefully there will be one, however.
