No. 25 / 1997

I really thought for certain that there would be no way I could make my self-imposed 'deadline' to get this post completed for the Spring opening & St. Patrick's Day Weekend celebration, but luck (of the Irish?) pulled us through!

Last Thursday, after an historic windstorm in this area, we lost our internet connection.  We can count ourselves as being quite fortunate, as the claim is some 800,000 business/residential customers lost their power.  Wouldn't you know it, right after that, the unusual balmy spring-like weather reverted back to very dangerously cold winter temperatures.  Many poor individuals and communities were out in the cold, literally, for days.

When trying to get help with our internet, the phone itself died and was out of commission until Saturday.  The widespread incident remained an open case on the AT&T books until we got the call Wednesday that everything should be functional, but because of that open case I couldn't get anyone to help me.  They wouldn't guarantee a secure connection because of the damage and until the problem would be considered 'closed'.

I had a feeling that because I was in the middle of getting help for my internet problem, when the phones went dead themselves, something was left undone.  (We don't use Wi-Fi, just the old land-line.)  I could see the connection was back on Saturday, according to my modem, but the configuration was incomplete as I still couldn't use it.  Thankfully, I convinced someone to look at it and we got things secured and working again on Monday, which allowed me to get things together to complete this next installment of Scarlet Street, magazine #25!

Okay then, that's it, Spring can now arrive safely and in four weeks time I'll be back with the final issue for the year 1997.  Until then, have a gooden, and here's to consistently warmer days ahead!
